I went to my LFS the other day to buy some rocks. I chose about 5 medium sized rocks and was suprised to find that it would cost around £31 for these. So, Today I have been down to the river near me and collected some rocks. The pics are below. Can any of you see any reason why these are not ok in my tank?

Sorry about so many pics.

Yeh they all look ok, though Iwould boil them before putting them in your tank - don't want to get any nasties from the river in your tank

yes i was going to give them a good scrub and boil them first.

If you are ever unsure whether a rock is safe enough for your aquarium or not - add a few drops of vinegar to the rock, if it fizzes then it isn't ok, it will leach into your tank and raise your pH and hardness (unless you actually wanted this to happen).

do not boil them, they could explode
the best course of action is to pour boiling water over them, it will have the same
effect on any 'nasties' but eliminates any chance of air pockets rapidly expanding.

personally, I'd not use the moss covered one, moss has a job to do in the garden
and it will serve you best there

Wow I didn't know they could explode! I've always left mine in boiling water and thankfully never exploded lol.

I'll remember that :good:
