For your tropical tank (excluding cichlid) do u prefer mainly rocks or mainly plants? And who uses real rocks or plastic rocks? and real plants or plastic plants?

Im a rock man as u can see, but im gunna get a couple of small plastic plants just to add sum er... plants.

Neither.
I'm a wood man.

We do have live plants in our tanks but they never to very well. Mostly it's just lumps of wood.

i like plants, but i'd love to have an african cichlid tank so that would be rocks...

id say both i have a african setup that has tons of rocks and only rocks and then my other tank has plants and wood.

<----- see name.

Seriously though....I'm all of the above. I have mainly live plants but a few plastics. I have a huge piece of driftwood but a couple medium sized rocks.

I use wood and rocks, looks more natural. I also use real plants, real rocks, real wood.

i'm a wood 'n' stone man... I just cant get on with plants... I find natural stone and bogwood far more aesthetically pleasing. I particularly like slate, its the most neutral yet effective stone i think.

The only plants i really like are vallis as its simple and tall...and anubias because it looks great if planted well onto bogwood.

Lots and lots of wood.

Although as I have said before, I love your tank with the rocks like that. So all in all I think any tank can look good with either, or all.

Got 'em all. Have a couple caves build from granite and slate, a piece of driftwood as a centerpiece and a ton of plants. I end up pruning daily there are so many.

I prefer the real thing, we have real plants in all our tanks, and heres our tank list

10 gallon
fake sandstone canyon
fake sunken ship
real wood

14 gallon
real rock
fake hollow log
real drift wood

20 Gallon
real drift wood
real rock
plastic dinosaurs
fake hollow log

40 Gallon
fake hollow log
lots real rock scatterted accross the bottom
mammoth L shaped real hollow log (12" high 15" long 9" wide)

my plants vary from elodia, milfoil, ambulia, reeds, wisteria, anubus, sword grass, java fern, dwarf grass of some sort another 3-4 leafy types

all my logs/wood would be real if I wasnt on a student budget with 3 kids

I like everything :D
I'd like to have a tank with nothing but rocks, but for some reason I have yet to grasp the concept of aquascaping with just rocks... I love the look, but have no idea how to create it *Lol*

A bit of everything in my main tank except fake plants (IMO they develop algae that is hard to clean off), I even have a fake rock thing, works great my eel and loaches ended up making their home in the hollow hole of the rock, so hey I'd say there all good, just keep in mind algae will develop on anything and it may be difficult to get it off of certain objects. Looken good though.
