I had boiled some rocks 3 days ago and one that i put in was letting out a continuos stream of air bubbles.I let it stay in for about 5 minuts to see if it would stop, but it did not,so i took the rock out in case it was letting out anything poison to the fish. What do you all think ?

Hi,

Its probably just air trapped inside. The most common test to do to see if rocks are safe is to drop some vinegar on them if it fizzes don't use it if not its usually safe.

Emma :)

The fizzing vinegar just usually means there are carbonate based things in the rock and that it will likely raise the hardness and pH of the tank water. Usually this is not something you want, thus the general idea that the vinegar tells you not to use a rock. But sometimes people -want- to raise their pH with something and these type rocks are sometimes the way they do it. Just didn't want anyone to think its worse if they read the word "safe."

Other thing to mention here is that directly boiling rocks is considered risky. There's a small chance (and in fact your bubbles show you got a bit closer than most!) that air, liquid or gas trapped inside a rock could expand and explode the rock if its boiled. Its better to just pour boiling or just hot water over the rocks but not submerge them, so they can cool right back down.

I had a terracotta (NO idea how to spell that) pot, and I put it in my tank. It gave off a constant stream of bubbles, so Iz took it out and did a water change. Is it OK for the tank?

As far as I know clay pots or tiles like that are fine in an aquarium.
