I am going home over thanksgiving break for almost a week, and there will be no one here to take care of Sakana, so I need to take him home with me. Problem is, it's a 4 hour car trip. I still have his little cup that he came in... would he be okay in that for 4 hours, or do you guys have a better idea for a way for him to travel? I will be holding him the whole way, but I would rather not have him in the 1 gallon, because I know that would slosh around a lot. So... any ideas?

Thanks. :)

Could pack him up like you were going to ship him. Put him in a plastic bag, laid on it's side, surrounded by styrofoam peanuts inside a small styrofoam cooler or small box. I'd make sure to buy a heat pack though...they sell 10 hour ones at Walmart, you get 6 for $2.

I really wish I could do that, but I literally have no money. I'm actually borrowing money from my friend to get gas so I can get home. :/ Basically, what I'm asking is, will he be okay in the little cup, or should I have something a bit bigger?

I agree with San,the cup should be just fine for four hours. Bring his tank along so you can let him stretch out when you guys get there. Have a great trip and a Happy Thanksgiving!!

okay, thanks, wuv and san, and Happy Thanksgiving to you all, too. :)

Well, I know that this isn't the ideal way of traveling with your bettas, but I have had to make several trips in that last two years where I've taken my bettas with me. Some trips have been 8 hour road trips, and the fish have always been just fine. I simply keep them in their regular tanks with a lower water level, and tape the lids down so they don't come off. I put the tank in a shower caddy and brace it against the back seat. Every stop I make, whether it be a stoplight or gas station, I check to see how they are doing. The fish normally travel just fine that way, and are just as happy as they are when I have them at home.

Get a 1-pint Poland Spring plastic water bottle and cut it in two (width-wise), the smaller half being near the spout - this is your funnel. Get one 16oz bottle of Snapple and wash it thoroughly, including cap. Punch a hole on the cap. Fill the Snapple bottle half way with clean conditioned water. The Poland spring spout (funnel) should fit on top of the Snapple bottle. From the original betta cup, pour the betta, water, and all into the Snapple bottle. Remove the funnel and cap the bottle tightly. Ready to go! :)
