hello im new im thinking of using ro water in my aquarium when i set it up. just wandering if anybody could give me some advice on what additives to use

RO water should really not be used for freshwater tanks unless you want to mess around with the pH.

RO water is mainly used for salt water aquariums.

Which do you have, fresh or salty?

what is the reason you think tap water is not good enough for your fish? the answer will help give advice.

i was recently keeping marines but this is for a fresh water set up and i know people use ro water for discus i just thought it would be better for the fish

What sort of fish are interested in getting? Most of the time you tapwater will be just fine just make sure to add conditoner to it to remove the chlorine and other harmful chemicals and metals

can anybody give me a reason why ro water shouldnt be used

Yes. RO is totally neutral pH (so, 7) and this isn't necessarily the best thing for all fish. It also doesn't have any minerals in and as a result is very soft. Some fish appreciate this (such as rams, discus, kilifish and wild betta types). However, this isn't suitable for some fish (such as mollys, which need a very high mineral content AKA hard water).

With RO you'd need to buffer it to stop pH swings (pretty tricky) and also add extra minerals and such.

I don't use it so I can't go into specifics on what products to use to re-add the minerals and stuff.

Most tap water (unless it is SUPER soft or SUPER hard, SUPER low pH or SUPER high pH) is suiatble for most freshwater fish. Grab a bottle of decent tap water conditioner (Seachem Prime is great, as is API's Stress Coat) and you're good to go.

is there anybody experienced in using ro could give me some advice

ok if i use pressurised co2 with a ph control would this keep my ph stable if so what other adatives would i need

simply because, there is no need. indeed even Discus, those bred in Europe/captivity, no longer need such specific water control. its a expensive, wasteful and, totally, unnecessary process for a fresh water tank.

if there are any, they seem unwilling to answer. the advice would seem to be DONT USE IT.

forgive me. you seem to feel using RO is vital to your tank. should you not have a basic understanding of, what it is, and the properties of the water it produces?
