What is it!!! It sounds like a stupid question but ive heard lots of people refer to it but i dont no wat it is!

Stands for Reverse Osmosis water. Basically it's 99% pure water. It's tap water filtered through various membranes and filters to remove almost everything. It comes out soft and pH neutreul. Because it's so pure it's used in marine tanks and soft water tanks.

the answer is not much use to most freshwater fishkeepers, with few exceptions. its wasteful, about 5 l just to get 1. and will need mixing with tap water to used in a FW setup.

basically its water that has been forced through a very fine membrane. it was developed for water recycling, in submarine's. not only does it clean the water, it also takes out anything good too, hence the need to "cut" the ro with tapwater.

if you have the money, and time. i guess, its not a bad toy. but i can think of many things to spend money on that are far more useful to the FW keeper!

I didn't have a clue what it was...but my local fish shop stated that if i wanted a planted freshwater aquarium with alot of 'real' plants, then using RO water is pretty much essential...so i did...

I hope i wasn't ripped off, i did think at one point, why am i paying 15p a litre, for water?

Even so, if it's good for your tank overall, i suppose i don't mind. :)

are you sure he didnt mean co2 that is good for plants but r/o water is only really needed if you keep fish that need v.soft pure water. You don`t need it for plants.

i dont think 15p a litre is too much. providing it is RO, and it is stored in the correct container, RO will absorb, directly from the material it is kept in, so care must be taken.

That said i still dont see the need, in a standard FW setup.
