Okay dumb question number 2 for today, I am planning on building a RO top up system, but now i need a science lesson, as the water gets evaporated (which happend alot) it leaves all the salts behind, right? so now topping up with ro, wont affect salinity, it'll keep it stable, right? or does some of the salt get evaporated with the water and will this lower salinity? And whaT about my PH, I'm asuming that RO is close to 7, so do i need to add a buffer to the RO to raise the PH?

This is all very confusing, i'm starting to regret converting from chiclids :-(

My RO/DI is closer to 8.8. A properly buffered tank will not be affected by the topoff.

You are correct that the salt does not evaporate off. And a constant topoff is great because that protects against salinity swings.

Here's a link to a thread I started about my topoff. Long. Read to end to see how I tried to solve for all possible contingencies.
