Hi All,
A quick bit of background info before my question;
I bought myself a 200 litre tank 18 months ago. I have a gorgeous healthy red spotted Severum, 2 Angels, 1 ghost knife and a selection of Corys, all live together very happily. The tank is well planted and built up using rocks and drift wood.
I stupidly put the tank in a bright room. It wasn't in direct sunlight but the walls are white washed and so I guess the sunlight just bounced around the room until it hit the tank, the result was an algae nightmare. After battling against the algae with frequent RO water changes and phosphate removers I have finally given up and found a new place for the tank, well away from any windows. The obvious result is that i now have a very nice looking algae free tank (yes, i do wish i had much earlier!!).
So my question, as hinted at above, is I’m wondering if I can now drop the use of RO water without causing any negative affects to the fish. They all started off life in treated tap water, but have lived a charmed life in RO water for the last 14 months. It's £5/25l from my local fish shop. I don’t have to change it so often now but it's still a cost i could do without, especially if it's not needed.
Look forward to your answers.
Dave.
