hi all
I'm getting rid of my 55gal corner tank and
replacing it with a 46 gal rectangle tank (43"x12"x21")
(gives me more space in my room)

I'm thinking of a river tank but I want to do a propper setup
with one or two powerheads but having their intake at the
opposite end to where they are situated.

any ideas or websites that can give me pointers?
what would the the best way of doing it so I can have
some plants(vallis and such) too?

I had those Powerheads in my tank at one time. They were part of the undergravel filter that I put in there, one on both sides of the tank positioned towards the top. They created a bunch of current on the top of the water, to the point where I had to turn one of them off. Thats back when I asked you of the Danios like current becasue they would swim up to it and get blown away, and that scared me a little. Of course, I was using a 30 gallon tank. Let me know if you figure out a good way to do it...

Awesome, thats almost tempting to try myself!, got a litle 2ft that would be great for a few "hong kong plecs" and maybe some WCMM's.

That structure could quite easily be copied by using waste pipe from a plumb mechant(21.5mm) nice and cheap for the pipe and corners and T's!

At work we have a small 3" deep pond that we made ourselfs to display a waterfall set up and we'ved slowly been adding WCMM and danios. today we added another few net fulls and 1 of the danios decided to make like a salmon and climb the waterfall.

there's 2 peices to the whole feature both with about 5 1" steps. and the litle fella had made it up to the last but 1 step, he might of made it all the way until a customer made a fuss about him being stuck so we had to help him back down. It's a 700lph pump going on there down a 7" wide water fall.

That's exactly what I was considering when I stumbled across that site last year.

20g long
6 Hillstream Loaches
8 WCMM
Rocks and wood and a few plants
Lots and lots of water flow

I have seen the same thing except backwards. The powerheads were set up for reverse under gravel filtration but instead of an under gravel filter piping was run down the side, across the back and then off the other side.

thanks MH, I guess I'm off to a plumbers merchants soon :fun:

Have a look in the 'Tank Talk' section on PC, there are a couple of really good River Tank setup's shown in there, the one that springs to mind is 'whitepine's thread ;)

I've attempted something similair in my 45G long...... no pics yet due to not having a digi-cam !!

Good luck, Wolf. I think you'll be pleased with a fast flowing water set up...

This is my L200 tank, it's been running for a couple years now. I used the loach link that modernhamlet linked you to when I originally set it up. It worked pretty well, I just wish I had gone for three powerheads rather than two..
Also, the powerheads burn out pretty easily. I've gone through a few.

The PVC pipe is an eyesore, I suppose. But it doesn't really bother me.

Glue (with silicone) some rocks to it and build it up to look more natural. Problem solved. :D

Meh :dunno:
That's actually a good idea and something Paul might consider. I,however, am not tearing down that tank  It's in my bedroom anyway so it's never seen by anyone besides us.
