I got some live River Shrimp today, this is new to me (using it!)

Does anyone know if the risks of introducing pathogens into my tank is just the same as other live foods or is the risk less? I got them from Wildwoods LFS and they keep the River Shrimp in highly oxgenated and brackish water if that makes any difference to risk of pathogens?

Obviously i will not be adding the water they come with into my tank

Also:

Does anyone know if some of them as i got a little too many are likely to survive for a good few days if i stick them in a large bin / bucket and keep the water agitated?

The guy at LFS said i might be able to if the water is kept cool and brackish?

any thoughts?

thanks

I've tried buying in bulk and keeping them for a week before but it was pretty unsuccessful, i would lose around 50% of them over the week which was a bit to much of a loss to swallow at 5p each.

I've never heard of any pathogens but they are taken from the wild so anything is possible.

did you keep them in brackish or normal tap water CFC?

Slightly brackish water, literally just enough salt to lift the hydrometer off 1.001, had them in a 30" tank with a big airstone and a small sponge filter.

i'm not going to bother to try and keep them alive, i think i'll just buy some every 2 or 3 weeks when i up Crews Hill and chuck them in tank when i get home.
