Essentially, we have 2 big severums and a JD living with a stunted arowana in a 125g tank. I'd give the arowana away, but it's not my tank (it's my parents), so I just deal with damage control.
They've been living together for around 3-4 years now, and have never done more than scratches to anyone else. I think this was just an unfortunate area to hit, but.....

Issue:
Green Severumm appears to have cornea and maybe lens hanging out of his eye socket, with what looks like fungus on top. I don't care if he loses the eye, but the eye area has turned pink/reddish, and I don't want to lose him from infection or something. He's a beautiful boy. <3
Fish behavior seems normal. He's always been a little listless - he does try to spawn regularly though, so we figure it's just a character trait rather than something wrong. Appetite seems down, but he has fed, and I'm not sure if it's because he can't see/find the food that he's not eating.

Basic stats:
ammonia/nitrates/nitrites are at 0. We run both a canister filter and a sump tank, so the water quality is not a big issue.
pH is around 5.8
Lots of mopani driftwood, fake plants, gravel - don't remember exactly but the water is on the softer side and sorta tea colored from the tannins.
Had recently put some melafix in - one of the severums beat up the JD a little?
Put in some Pimafix today because of the eye. It appears to be fungusing.
No changes to the tank in the past 2-3 years.

His good eye

Btw, I'm in the USA.

Bless Him.
Looks like he's going to lose the eye.
Can you issolate him and use a bacterial med. As being listless can also be another sign of a bacterial infection. Also pink and redness around the eye can be bacterial.

Has he injured himself by fish attacking him or something in the tank.

Yeah, even if he doesn't lose the eye, the cornea and the aqueous humor are gone. I don't mind if he loses the eye, so long as we don't lose him.

I don't think he fits in the quarantine tank we usually use - he's too tall/deep for the 5 or 10 gallon we usually use to treat the fish. We've been sort of pipetting melafix/pimafix in his general direction. His behavior is completely normal for him - he's always been a more listless sort of fellow, even when he was younger.

Really, I have no idea what he did to the eye. =/ If I had to guess, someone bit/scraped him with their mouth, but I'm not sure who. As I mentioned earlier, they've all been living together for quite some time and don't do anything but nip at each other much anymore.
The trailing portion is gone today, and it actually looks a bit better. Less red and pink, more clearish yellow stuff in the eyesocket as usual. I'll cross my fingers.

If you treated him with an anti-bacterial, which one would you choose?

Really need location for a med.
Uk. Anti internal bacteria med by interpet.
United States. Maracyn plus.

If you can keep any bacterial infection out the way then it shouldn't be a problem if he loses the eye. Im sure he has enough other senses to compensate for the loss. Shame you can't get eye removal surgery on fish

Thanks for all the well-wishes! He seems to be doing a lot better - most of the redness has gone away and he was displaying at me a little.

I mentioned I was in the USA on the bottom of my first post.
I'm almost wondering if it'd be better to NOT treat because he's along the road to recovery, and meds tend to mess up filters and such. His eye looks a lot better or I wouldn't even consider not dosing, but since he's improving rapidly...?

If he's improving leave the med then.
Was just worried about the yellow stuff coming out of the eye.
Good Luck.

To be honest, I think that yellowish stuff coming out his eye... WAS his eye. It's currently mostly an empty socket right now. Regardless, I'm sure it wasn't a fun experience for him, but its clearing up already and I've got my fingers crossed. I've got a prawn with his name on it for tomorrow's dinner if he's doing better, haha. Hopefully that'll be good incentive!

Thanks for all your help!

I had a feeling the eye would die. It is good in a way that it has, because if the eye is gone then there is no open wounds for infection.
Hope he enjoys his dinner tomorrow, lol!

Bless Him.
Soak his food in garlic juice to boost his immune system.
When fish lose an eye they can sometimes lean to onside when they have a missing eye.
