:( Darth has seemed on the edge of death for a week or more now. Since recovering at Xmas, he slowly started to go downhill again. I have barely looked at him this last week cos it upset me to see him like this. I decided tonight to take the bull by the horns, and armed with bloodworm i decided - he eats the bloodworm, he gets a reprieve. What betta is gonna say no to bloodworms? I noticed up close thet he has obviously not eaten his pellets in the last week :( I guess I should have been watching. Anyway, I dropped bloodworm right by him - one even landed on him. He ignored them totally, not moving a muscle. I fed the other bettas and came back to him and still no movement. And although I didn't want to do it I figured thats it, if this fish doesn't respond to bloodworm - and no matter how ill he has seemed in the past, he has ALWAYS gobbled up bloodworm - then it's time for him to go. I've tried all sorts of treatments on him but he had responded to nothing really. He has even had 2 'operations' when I put him to sleep for a few mins whilst I removed fluff that was coming from his anus. He had gotten skinny apart from a bloated little belly, and his fins were all raggedy though not with fin rot.
Anyway. I got out the clove oil and filled a small container with his tank water. Then I netted him - he hardly moved to resist it. And I popped him into the clove oil water and he didn't fight it at all. I guess I was right, it was time, but it doesn't stop me crying - I really wanted to save him and I couldn't. RIP Darth Betta, such a sweet little thing

Awwww Tibby.....I'm so very sorry :-( I know how hard you fought to keep your little boy alive and you really did go that extra mile for him. It's always so hard when you have to make that decision and I know how much you loved him. Big hugs xxx

:rip: Darth

Aww Tibby, that's really bad news :( I'm sure you did the right thing though and gave him the best care throughout his life, doesn't make it easier though I guess :(

Well I cannot bear to see Darth's home empty, so I went out at lunch and bought me a new betta. He's just a red vt, but very pretty. He's pretty bright coloured, and seems to have some pinky purple running through the base of tail. He acclimatising now so I can't get a real good look till later when lights go on. He is inquisitive and his eyes looked blue in the shop..... hmmm. He's called Stylo - my friend gave me a lift home with him, and his car is a Stylo, and it is the same colour as the fish! lol. Still sad about Darth, but there's nothing like a new fish to cheer you up!

Awww can't wait to see him. He sounds lovely and just what you need right now to perk you up :good:

It was him or one of Shell's beauties... but am a bit skint right now, so an £18 was not really on the cards.... damn. Next betta, maybe!
He's swimming round now exploring. looking for food, the greedy lil thing!
