Hey all i got some cash for my Bday and found by chanve really a rio 240 being sold for 300 quid, i bought it and then got it up stairs (not easy on your own :( ) then i found that the room i live in is a bit slanted.... and the carpet i plan to have the tank on is very bouncy.
Im worries that the tank might fall and not only break itself but the wooden floor boards below it. :-(
now the room slants down and to the right not alot but noticably (SP) so i have leaned my tank upon a wall on the right hand side of the house. with some wooden bits under the feet of the cabinet i have it on. now this means its more against the wall and essentailly more tilted, but if its against the wall it cant tipple over right? just want to make sure that im correct before i fill it up other wise i could have an angry landlord :p

Cheers
Greg

If you're going to have the tank braced you want it to be level not at any angle. The whole tank when filled is going to weigh 300 Kilos + It would be wise also to make sure that the tank is siting across the beams in the floor rather than along one beam so spread the weight out.
If the tank is sitting level, and the actual floor doesn't move you should have no problems. As long as the floor is level and can handle the weight. The filled tank will compress the carpet so it shouldn't be much of an issue.

thanks for the respons the floor isnt level tho. it kinda tilts like \. and the wall is behind the tank that it will lean on if u like. although it wont lean its not tht exterme of a tilt. wht u mean if i brace it sorry? like get it fixed to the wall?
Greg

If it's leaning against the wall then it's not level, unless the wall is at an angle  By bracing I mean adding packing under the cabinet to level it out while keeping a solid connection to the floor. I don't think attaching it to the wall in any wayis a good idea.
It may be possible to add a strip of wood or something under an edge of the cabinet to level thing out and keep everything stable.

meh, im making it out to be terrible, its not actually leaning against the wall, im just saying if it was alot worse then it would be, its jsut to get an idea of where it is situated. jus so u know how slanted my house is
i have a tank that is 23 inch long, at one end the water is 2.3cm from the water line and at the other it is 2.1cm from the water line. so its not a massive slant just alot of water to take any kind of risk with isnt it. :)
thansk for ur continuing help btw mate :good:

ok thinking about making a base for the cabinet to sit on that will compensate for the unlevelness of the tank its leaning from front to back. how do i go about this? and how will i calculate the angle needed for compensation?

It was a bit pricey.
I picked up our 240 for £160 last weekend, with loads of extras and some nice bits of bogwood.
