I have a tank which has had a fishless cycle, and now 3 platties and 1 molly for the last week. The plants and wood are showing a layer of sediments settling on them. And although very small, the glass has a small showing of green algae. Is this a signal that the filter is due its first rinse out. Or due to the still imaturity of the media, just keep to water changes?
Thanks

the algae is probably more due to you lighting try turning your lights down slightly, (have them on for 8 hours a day or so...)
I personally only rinse out the filter media, when the flow from the filter slows down

When a new tank is setup, Algae blooms are quite normal... There could be excess Nitrate in the water, high levels of phoshate, moderate to strong lighting, or excess nutrients in the water...

You can buy anti - algae forlmulas... or you can simply clean the algae from the tank and wait for the tank to fully mature...
