I am new to planted aquariums and don't really know much about anything to do with it. What are the ceramic rings around the base of the plants for? e.g. Vallis. Are you meant to remove them? Sometimes its just a bit of sponge tied with some bendy metal. And with moss tied down to a piece of metal mesh, are you meant to take it apart and slightly cover it in sand to grow or leave it on the mesh net?

As you can probably guess, yes I've made quite a mess of my tank. Not sure how it grows or anything so I just plucked clumps of flame moss and planted them around. :L

Any help?

They are primarily used as weights and to protect the roots.

Remove them before planting otherwise the metal might upset your water chemistry.

With moss, get some string and wrap the moss around the object(Wood,Rock,Ornament) until secure.
