Na, its deffinatley not java moss. I know that. I have java moss on wood, rocks and a ceramic jar, its a bad photo i know... but i know its not java moss.

It doesnt look as green and bushy as your photos though. It recquires good light and co2 is beneficial right? Is that your riccia jimboo??

hi, i brought some Riccia couple of weeks ago, i thought i would give it a try.
Mine has grown quite a bit since ive got it and is looking really healthy. I am floating mine at the moment to get it grow quicker.

It needs good light and CO2 to grow well apparently.

Well thats my experience with it, dont know if its any help though.

I have had a lot of riccia in the past - and done extreemly well with it.

I float it, using a piece of clear air pipe in a circle to keep it together. It grows realy fast and thickens up- only thing is if you get anything like duckweed in it it is hard to separate.

It proves good for baby fish too - mine was full of platties when you look at it from the bottom!

My light at the time was only 1 wpg and no CO2 and it thrived.

thats what i found anyway ;)

I bought soem Riccia, And I am floating it aswell.

The Spiny Eel + Kuhlis Love it and hang out in it.

I don't think that the plant on the photo is Riccia.

Riccia needs good lighting, especially when it is fixed to stones and so on.

i wouldnt say 3wpg is a must - mine rocketed and spread like crazy with 1 wpg, and i've never used CO2 - its a great plant for surface cover :)

That's not riccia in the first picture posted in this thread. It looks like java moss to me too.

With your plants floating at the surface, they'll get more light.

Riccia is a high demand plant, and medium lighting just won't cut it. 3 wpg sounds like a good number, and CO2 is also a must.

Do some reading on tropica.dk and you will find out that it isn't easy to grow riccia, especially if you plan on using it as a foreground cover plant (carpet) or attach it to stones, rocks, driftwood, etc...

And the first pic is java moss, and the second poster's pics are riccia. First two anyways. The third one is java moss.

Cool, will do. I have around 2wpg. So thats cool. But i dont have co2. And for the last time IT AINT JAVA MOSS. I have that too! And im not completely daft.

Ill try get a picture for all u who under estimate my ability to ID a plant!

not being rude but it cant be a "must" if it spread rapidly without, I'd try it and see what you get.
Agreed. "Must" was the wrong word. No offence taken.

I think that "helpful", "benefitial" or "advantageous" would have been a better word to use.

However, many plant indexes list requirements to grow riccia as high lighting and CO2. I'm sure that if you don't use CO2, it would be alright, as your riccia is growing well in your tank. But I'm sure that it would appreciate it if you'd use it.
