thats what i do - either a hairnet with the riccia on some slate, or direct onto the gravel.

it gets fiddly, it will soon grow out so dont put it too thick.

use a brown hairnet not blonde! I use brown on mine and it is IMPOSSIBLE to see teh net, even when its just be set up. I just use little bits of bogwood and cover bit at a time.

did it at the weekend and its pearling great tonight!
