Well I have to say things have changed A LOT... I used to keep 4 tanks with under gravel filters They got fully cleaned every month, whilst the fish waited in a bucket. Filled back up and water treated, then once up to temp the fish went back in. I had Guppies and Kribensis, others i can't remember, but they bred well.

Now it's like being a mad scientist with Ammonia, Nitrates, Nitrites and PH levels.I have bought a second hand 240l Aqua One reef tank that was used for gold fish!!! So it's been fully cleaned, running for 3 weeks and planted up.

I had 3 guppies (1M, 2F - one of which appears to have fin rot - under treatment), 2 Bronze Corys and a Red shrimp in a nano tank. These are now in the big tank, the nano tank is now for the sick and pregnant.

I look forward to many years fish keeping and i'll keep popping into the forum.

On a side note when i cleaned out the nano tank there was some clear gell, i presume this some sort of protozoa or snail larvae?

Thing have certainly changed a lot in the last 20 years or so! The hobby is a lot more science based, but it's to the benefit of our fishes, which grow much larger and live longer than they ever did in the 'old days'

I agree began to stock fish again after 23 years off and things are so different. However have fond memories of putting the fish in the bath in warm water while I a full clean out. Apparently nowadays it is unnecessary though. Shame I used to love thinking of ways of cleaning the tanks without stressing the fish too much.
