Hey quick question.
will reducing the Outflow on a canister cause long term damage.
The flow on my ex1200 is much to high just wondering will it harm it?

Thanks in Advance
Carl

I think in the long term it might put the motor under strain but I don't think it will cause major problems. Maybe try it for a bit and see if it gets warmer than usual.

Have you considered different ways of arranging the outflow to diffuse the flow?

Well Currently Im using a Very long spray bar covers about 3/4 of the tank doing to for good circulation reasons as its reduced stagnant areas.

Not many ways I can really reduce it, I did feel it would put more stress on the motor and the only way I can think to reduce is it to maybe make a loop back bypass on the outflow line.

but more joints equal more chance of a leak

If you aim the spray bar back toward the glass, you will move just as much water but will cut down on the currents in the tank if that is the problem. End result, less vigorous current without hurting the filter. It can also make for some areas that don't get as much circulation as you wanted but so would restricting the flow from the pump.

most fish come from rivers that have currents. Unless the filter is blowing the fish all over the place I wouldn't worry about it.
