Restocking After Disaster?

hi all, am after a little stocking advice, normally i wouldnt ask but am just after a few suggestions i guess. about a month or so back i had a terrible tank disaster, something got in the water poisoning most of my fish, below i will give a list of what i have left (and in brackets the fish numbers i had before the disater)
the tank is very over filtered, it used to be used for oscars and large catfish so has very good filtration.
also is 4 weeks with no deaths a good indication that the remaining fish are over the disaster? and its safe to add more? tank is 2m long community (approx 600L not including filter capacity)

cardinal tetras 4 (out of 65)
emperor tetras 3 (out of 4)
h+t tetras 4 (out of 10)
zebra danios 5 (out of 12)
angels 2
kribensis 4
red coral platys 2 (out of 14)
mm platys all dead (4)
sunset platys all dead (4)
wagtail platys all dead (4)
black molly 1 (out of 4)
killifish 2
hoplo catfish (dead)
banjo catfish 1
wcmm 2 (out of 12)
common plecos (all dead)
bristlenose juvis (all dead)
various corys (all dead)
so yeah my tank is looking very bare..it is heavily planted with lots of bog/mopani wood and caves.

would you up the low numbers of remaining fish or transfer these to a smaller tank (i have a 200L free) and start again with something different in this tank? what would you go for? the pain (mentally and financially) of losing all those fish is just starting to ease so i think its time to dust of my socks and try again

4 weeks is usually a good time to wait, but since it's such a large volume of water (600L is fairly large I think?), you might want to wait another 2-4 weeks just to be safe.

Transferring the fish to a 200L and setting up a cichlid community could be done, but since you already had a huge community tank setup previously (mass platy and 65 cardinal!) maybe you'd prefer to go with a more peaceful setup?

65 cardinals would have looked fairly amazing.

it did look pretty awesome, i would love to get to that size shoal again but it was a bit expensive and took a long time! id buy ten fish at a time but 1 or 2 always died so id have to buy more and more....took over a year to get to 65!

im thinking of evicting the livebearers and giving those a tank of their own? maybe move the danios and wcmm to my sub tropical tank (well its a 'pond' tank full of various pond fish we rescued but never gets under 15 degrees)

so many ideas but i want more before i make a desicion!

It was such an awsome looking tank, did you loose the big plec too?
I would evict everything and have frontosa in it lol or maybe new world cichlids.

Gouramis are very nice for a community tank, you could have alsorts in that tank.

Change your supplier mate - Never had a cardinal die on me yet! Now Black Phantom Tetras, that's a different matter, I always seem to get the weak ones

star - *waves* nah the plec was in the oscar tank luckily, i already have frontosa and find them so hard to get that i dare not look for anymore!
i have both old workd and new world cichlids already so am looking for something different that will go with the fish still in there perhaps?
another idea was to make it into a big paludarium(sp) plenty of space for water and land, and the background would make it look awesome!

what fish do you really like ? that will fit in your setup like a nice center piece fish

thats my problem, i like every fish i see, but dont want to end up with a bit of everything, would love a themed tank but dont know where to start!

what about a heavily planted and wood root tank with fish like a shoal of bosemani rainbows or other mixed rianbows something like that it would look awesome in that size of tank

A large shoal of pims pictus cats would look stunning. Such active fish, I love them.
Not sure about with smaller fish though? You could have a catfish planet tank!
