friend bought them at wal-mart today (ya i know) and when i saw them realized they were a brackwater fish. i have a 10g at home with a gourami in it alone. He said he would take the three spot in exchange for the puffers since he already has some gourami's. Yes i know all the rules. gourami too big for a 10g and all. But he didnt get along with some other fish i had so i had no choice. So anyways, the tank is cycled, he has been in it for 2 months with no illnesses. I read to put 2 tbs of aquarium salt per 5g's. I cleaned the tank twice and did a 50% water change. Do you think they will be ok until tomorrow when i can figure out what to do with the pretty fish. Thank you for any input. Oh, they are about 1-1 1/2" each very small and very brightly colored.

Did you say you had other fish? The puffers aren't going to get along with them either. They are the most vicious little fish ever, and they will outgrow your 10 gallon tank, especially with 2 of them. I worked in the pet department at Walmart at one time and those things would even attack each other. They really need enough space for them to each have their own proper territories or they will kill each other once they get a little bit bigger. I know I hate it when people say this on forums, but I would suggest rehoming them. :/

Edit: They're ok in freshwater, stop freaking out. :p

Green Spotted Puffers do OK in freshwater when they're tiny but need brackish when they are older, and some say they should go full marine as adults. At the size of yours I think most would agree they need salt. Get marine salt instead of aquarium salt. They told me over in the brackish forum that the aquarium salt is junk and doesn't do your puffer any good. Post over in the brackish forum and you should get plenty of help on how to keep them. In fact, you will probably even be able to have most of your questions answered just by reading others posts.
