A family a few doors down from me had deciced they didn't want tropical fish anymore, i thought they had taken them to the LFS when my lil sister came running in saying they had kept them in an ICE CREAM TUB!! for at least a week and it was in the garage! so i went round and they were in literally 2" of horrible brown water, so i had to have them, couldn't even make out what fish they were. Turns out theres 3 neon tetras one of which has mouth rot so getting some treatment today and a tiger barb, he looks ok but is very jumpy at the moment, so heres some pics of my lil rescues
Will be picking up more neons after treatment, but can't really get more barbs, will this guy be ok on his own or is more a must have?

oh poor fishies, tiger barbs are very nippy and agressive went kept singularly, people say the agression only subsides (or is contained within the group) when you have around 10+ of them so unfortunately if you just have the one he'll be likely to terrorise the tank.

i'd suggest you nurse him back to health for a few weeks then look for someone near to you with an existing shoal of them which he can join. :good:

Excellent rescue :good:

People are strange creatures indeed, why would you do this to a living creature, always amazes me in a bad way :(

was thinking the exact thing Miss Wiggle, he seems fine at the moment he is 'shoaling' with the neons, will run the treatment and see how he goes
Any good treatment to reccomend?

not dealt with mouth rot myself before, not sure what med is best tbh :dunno: think pimafix might cure it but not 100%

as with anything (and i'm sure you know this) the best thing you can do for them immediately is make sure the water is pristine, so just keep an eye on your levels and do a few extra water changes if needs be.

Well the only stuff they had was Interpet anti fungus and finrot, so got that, hopefully will do the trick, will do a small water change today then every other day for the week then see if i need to remedicate :good:

That's disgusting what they did!

Good to see someone has a heart thought and you're doing your bit :)

Just a little update, there all still with me which i am surprised at, the neon that had mouth rot is getting better but looks like the poor thing has no top lip, it doesn't seem to be affecting him in anyway, will run a second round of meds on thursday as reccomended on the box just incase :good:

i am so happy that all 4 are still alive :D

Awww how can anyone do that to living breathing things  Im so disappointed by the human race sometimes!

Good on you for rescuing them :good: glad they have picked up for you xx

thanks guys, there all doing well, the tiger barb is looking for a new home after tearing one of my gupps to shreads today  i am suprised the poor thing is still alive, so anyone wants him he is free to any who will collect

is there a good lfs which will take the barb near you?
It amazes me when people have fish and dont clean them out so they will die, as they dont want them any more. I knew a few people who have done this! Thats how come I have so many fish in my pond!

i have a semi decent one near me that i'm sure would take him, might pop in tomorrow and see, maybe look at the fish whilst i am there

Nice one on the rescue. You should report your neighbours, what idiots. They should not be allowed to keep any living thing again!
