Hi there just rescued a giant plakat from an older lady who didnt have time to do water changes - he's in a bit of a bad way - he's only 3 months old but is already bigger than my other male plakat

He's been in pretty crap water for 4 weeks ,no filter , no heater and he has a white bit on his side and was just sitting on the floor looks like he has scales missing from the patch

He is now up and swimming and eating - after 4 days in tank with mature filter and heater to 27 degrees
His name is Brutus :)

Apparently 11cm+ isn't uncommon.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the reply - he's in 30 litres of a 60 litre tank at the moment but should be moving to either a 75 or 50 litre tank - or might try him in my 400 litre community - will need to be when i can keep an eye on him though

He was being fed on goldfish flakes but now onbetta pellets , tried him with live bloodworm today and he flared at it and swam away , then came back and ate them off the tweezers - bless him

Has tried his first pea tonight lol - he loved that - just getting him used to having a weekly pea treat

Looks like he might have columnaris judging by that lesion on his side. If it was serious it would have killed him by now, but it's not going to go away on its own once it's that well established. I'd melafix the tank just in case, and keep a close eye on him. Poor boy, he looks awful. He's lucky to have fallen into such good hands.

oh so sorry to hear that hon, you tried and gave him a kingly feast and treatment before he passed on, hugs x
