A couple of months ago I got what I thought were 2giant corydoras 4in long. Turned out to be baby Synos and I named them Poirot and Whiskers for obvious reasons. They have now grown much bigger especially Poirot the dark one who is at least 6in. Very friendly fish, good eaters, swim all over the tank and have even ventured out in daytime. Get on well with cichlid tankmates and L001 plec so far.
Their previous owner is the sort of irresponsible person who buys fish on a whim without knowing anything about them, not even the species, then sells fish very cheap to get rid of them when he gets bored with them. I'm really glad I got them. Just as well I had a large tank as they turned out to be Synos!

Glad someone good has them. Syno's often get removed when ppl realise how big they get...not that that's an issue for serious fishkeepers since most of us have larger tanks! I keep alot of synos and have for years. I love them to bits.

Big????? I thought max syno size was around 8in including tail. I guess that's big compared to livebearers and corries but for those of us who have plecs it's on the smallish side. Gregory my L001 is a magnificent specimen who is now 12in including tail. I also adopted an unwanted dwarf/stunted common plec who is only 8in including tail but otherwise active and healthy. I love the synos. very active fish that swim all over tank even in partial daylight

 Yes, compared to some of the plecs and a number of more advanced fish, they are a reasonable size. But my Eupterus are well over 8inches. The largest seems to have topped out around 12". I don't hold much ground by looking at sizes given on websites since a number of my fish have grown at fast rates when expected rate was slow, and fish have grown beyond their considered maximum size. My Eupterus also bred in their previous aquarium (moved them last november)and the two babes are both now a good size. I shall need to upgrade again if they try to breed again and am aiming to upgrade when I move so they will move into a larger tank on moving (allows me to set it up in advance of their arrival).

Hope my synos stay around 8in as with two large plecs as well I don't have room for another two 12in + monsters! Not sure what species they are or indeed if they are the same as they look different nad one is now much larger than th eother. Don't have a decent camera for fish ID photos. What is the best phot website to identify synos?

Poirot, the largest syno who is now 6in has started chasing cichids, hopefully just for fun. Are synos agressive and can they kill smaller fish ? Mine are in a cichlid tank with female convicts and 3 jewels
