I'm thinking of swapping my Betta's gravel for sand, and I'm wondering, would ZooMed Repti Sand be possible to put in a tank? I like the different colors of it, but I know it's not really safe for reptiles (I don't view any sand as reptile-safe), but I dunno if it'd be terribly safe.

If not, is there any colorful sand you can get for a tank? If not, I'll get the normal colored sand :)

Not sure if any coloured sand would be safe due it to possibly being dyed? maybe wrong though.

Personally i would go with play sand, its easy to clean and cheap and looks great in my opinion :)

That's what I was thinking. It's unfortunate as it can look quite cool, but oh well. I can always put some colorful gravel and other bits in my tank :)

The dye in the sand is fine. It is the calcium and content of other elements that one must be wary of. Because too much calcium in the tank will cause hard water build up and will alter the pH of the water.

i used exo-terra brown reptile sand in my aquarium. It worked well and didn't kill my fish...:good:

Awesome :) I might pick some up soon and test it out, as it worked for you! It's designed to be animal-safe anyway.

have a look a the carib-sea range of sands, not cheap but really nice.
