Reporting Lfs

have you ever reported your LFS for cruelty to your local RSPCA or appropiate authorities......I HAVE
went into one and they had bettas in those old Demi Johns(spelling) how the hell they got them out gets me? died gups everywhere, cables all over the place, 2 foot gap to walk around and look at tanks, oscars eating massive goldfish (i know this happens but they could do it after hours, esp when they were selling goldfish in the next tank) total health and safety issue waiting to happen.
mind you it worked a treat this place is awesome now.

now jez thats unfair to ask its sorted now and very pleased with the effect of this complaint but lets just say its bound to be one that you have been using......have a guess.......hold on how do i know you dont work for a LFS

Well i can at least say i hated wallisdown one!!!!!!!!!!! their bust owing over a million now i hear!!!!!
but half the shops in town are rubbish....

But i do like atlantis in charminster, it's oldskool i know but i like it there.

I went into my LFS (that I dont use any more) over the weekend to see about 30 Clown Loaches that were nearly dead, about 50 Red Tailed Sharks in approx 120ltr tank and some fish with what looked like furry white stuff all over it.... That place used to be great but its gone to the dogs now...

Whilst in there talking to a couple about how bad the fish were they asked me if I had gone to another recently owned LFS? Nope so I jumped in the car and headed off over only to find out all the decent employees from the crap shop run and own the new place, its amazing!! This new place keep all sorts of exotic fish!

atlantis cool, i like the way he has his tanks as communities, can spend hours looking at all his fish, always something strange to find and buy.............bloody hot in there though hes a nice guy....thats the one by the Richmond pub yeah??? i know my way round bournemouth by pub names only

it closed down about 8 years ago and i was a member for several years, but would like to get a small groupe together for small talks and stuff if was to happen.


Ye Tony at Atlantis and his wife are good fun but i spend far to much time in there
Been running that shop scince 65 and he love to breed fish like my self.

thats her, she now at creekmoor southern aquatics but they must be treating her better as her attitude has gone from bad to good

Back to the subject i never reportd a shop, i just tell the staff whats wrong and how to correct it, and then spend my money in some where better

I've never reported a fish shop but I'd like to.
There's a pet shop called Trent Pet near where I live that treat the fish like hell! They have loads of gouramis all labeled as "extremely peacefl fish" and the fish are like 3/4 dead. In each tank the fish are suffering by ich, fungus, or other diseases. They label fish with wrong names. They are truly horrible. They put the fish in disgusting water. They made me sick and I never went there to buy fish again (although they do sell cheap cat toys ).

I want to do this, as there are quite a few really bad ones in the Taunton area. But i don't know what good it would do, i have complanined to the OATA about one of their members, but it looks like nothing has happened.

rspca were excellent,i said them that i thought they wouldnt do anything about it but they asked me questions like
1, how often do you go into the shop
2 how many occasions have you witnessed this
3 how many dead fish did you see
4 were the tanks heated (answer was no)
5 how many staff were on
6 did you complain
7 were there any signs of disease
8 have you ever worked there or are you related to any employee

i told them about all the cables and junk lying around and they said that once they did an inspection and found the situation to be as described then they would put in an order to get the problems sorted regarding the health of the fish, but get this, they said that if a cable was to cause someone to fall over and break a tank which could cause harm to the fish then they could do something (forget about us humans cutting ourselves to shreads)....if you got a problem go on their website and call the number on it (24hrs a day, all calls answered) they will do something about every call regardless of the situation, if the problem could even cause the fish to become ill or stressed then they will act without doubt.

Well, I guess they can call the dead fish extremely peaceful. It sounds like that's about all they can do right!

Oh, that is SO unfair, I'm so curious now!

And no, I don't work for an LFS although I'm waiting to hear back from two places I spoke to last week, so fingers crossed. And if you're talking about the place I think you're talking about, then I don't think I've ever bought anything from it, for a few reasons. Glad you sorted them out!
