Replanting My Tank

ive got one and cant say a bad word about it

i was thinking of a Eheim Professional 2324 as it has a built in heater (which is what i want)

also its just over £100

but wonderd how it would cope if i was putting co2 straight into it (airline under the intake)

photoshop (not that good but for a rough idea)

plants at the moment
front - moss ball carpet (not sure yet might be ricciabut moss ball is different and lower maintaince (sp)
2nd line - lilaepsis brasiliensis (pot no. 040)

rear (left to right)

Bacopa australis (pot no. 043a)
Rotala rotundifolia (pot no. 033)
Hygrophila polysperma 'Rosanervig' (pot no. 059b)

any suggestion for more plants?

thanks

I agree with Corin Castle, I think a carpet of Hemianthus callichtroides would look nice and they are quite simple to grow.
Glosso generally is a lot harder to keep and requires excelent conditions to form a dense carpet.

I would go for a riccia carpet ( moss ball carpet... IMO no! )

Maybe have wider line of lilaepsis brasiliensis...

I think three plant species at the back would look pretty good ( three species that just look excellent together... Heteranthera zosterifolia, Rotala sp. ''Green'' and Rotala rotundifolia IMO... )

Maybe add some Eleocharis "parvula" in with the lilaepsis brasiliensis to add interest...

( you can find these plants on Aqua esentials... )

I don't think the riccia carpet should be so large either... I don't think it should cover the whole foreground... IMO I think you should opt for Hemianthus callitrichoides ''Cuba'' or Glossostigma elatinoides for the foreground... You could use both plant species...

Cheers...

wow thanks for that will be getting some of that Hemianthus callitrichoides ''Cuba'' as it looks amazing imo but not to keen on the glosso although it looks spot one when fully carpeted

i have already bought the background plants although i might have a look at the 3 you mentioned

i have about 3 pots worth of lilaepsis brasiliensis... from my nano so will be as thick as it can go although if it does look bear i will buy some more

thanks again for that really helpfull

Just out of interest what makes you say that? I've not had glosso yet but have had HC and it can be tricky, unless you give it plenty of everything especially CO2 and NO3.

The plan looks good, although I think you need more plants along the back to break up the hard background you have in the tank, which should make it look more natural.

I tried Glossostigma with low CO2 and low lighting, after a few weeks it began to die and grow vertically. In almost the same conditions with slightly more CO2 I was able to grow (and still am) HC successfully. It might be because of the rise in CO2 but I honestly don't think it made much difference.

Cheers

cheers when you say more plants do you mean more types of more of the current ones?

if more types can you recoomand any that go well with the current?

thanks

A (marimo) moss ball carpet is indeed low maintenance if combined with the right fish (read: non-messy ones). But if you have messy poopers and eaters then you'd be constantly vaccuuming the carpet to keep it sparkling clean.

ive got about 45 neon tetra 6 ottos and currently 6 red cherry shrimp (i might be getting more)

so i wouldnt say there messy fish

still not decided as even having to vacum it ones a week is easy enough while doing water changes but will take ages to get perfect

thanks

Interesting, cheers.

I think you need both, more types of plants and more of them

bleeched my plants yesturday and they all survived

also started up my co2 and placed the plants into the tank (will they be ok under 1 wpg for a few days?)

how many pots of Hemianthus callitrichoides ''Cuba'' should i get to cover a 47x4 (inches) area?

still need to order my filter

done another photoshop changed the foreground plant added more depth to the lilaepsis brasiliensis (will also be getting Eleocharis "parvula" but wouldnt look right in the photoshop)

Picture004copy.jpg

moved the palnts around and will also be getting some Heteranthera zosterifolia

thanks

Or if you take the risk P@H have them at 3 for £10 (They are Tropica)
They look quite fresh in my local, although I know I'll be buying snails too. lol

thanks anyway

I heard one of the staff at the Lincoln South shop say

'we can order the tropica plants you want'

The Lincoln one has some lovely HC and Rotala Rotundifolia at the mo.
