I`ve just been quoted £15.00 for a replacement lamp for my Q tank. I`m sure I`ve read on here that there are cheaper alterntives available, any ideas ?

The lamp I`m after is 18" t8 15w 240v, I do have a few stems of H polysperma

Thanks in advance

Stay away from the fish shop and try a home improvement center instead. An 18 inch T-8 tube is always 15W so if you find one that length it will have the right wattage. If you are growing plants with it, a spectrum of at least 3000K but less than 10000K is recommended. So called cool white is usually about 2700K and warm white is even lower temperature wavelengths. "Daylight" tubes will run 5500K to 6000K and work just fine for plants.
