I currently have a 180 litre tank with -
1 male, 2 female bettas
15 cardinal tetra
4 corys
4 otocinclus
6 Phantom tetras
a few amano shrim

I recently tried to keep discus but unfortunately they recently died, so I'm looking for a fairly large fish that is more hardy, would a single angel fish be suitable? Or what else would you recommend.

temp - 78 degrees.
pH - 5.6

Angels will kill your male fighter and possibly eat your cardinals, you could get round it by getting baby angels and by the time they are big enough to eat cardinals, they will be used to them and the cardinals will be adults if not already.

Though it would mean a new tank for your fighter which you will need anyway. You cant keep male and female fighters together long term, they honestly will kill each other! They never spend time together in the wild short of a few hours for breeding!

Best bet, get a nice little 25L tank for your male fighter (the females should be good with the angels, especially if got young!) and get 4 young angels for your big tank :)

Expect you might need to rehome 2 angels as they hit adults if you get a pair as pairs wouldnt tolerate each other.

If i were u i wouldn't bother with angels as they can be agressive. I would rather get 1 male and 2 female or just 1 male Pearl Gourami. They grow medium size (thought not huge) but they are incredibly peaceful to other fish and look superb. I have dwarf gouramis which are smaller than pearls but i regret not getting pearl.

Id agree on the Betta thing with MBOU, U need to rehome the male or females.

Ive heard so many bad things about keeping male and female bettas together. When i got my tank they came with it and i actually ordered a nano tank for the male but ive been watching them for months now.

Theyve been together for a year or so in total and they never fight. If i go to the tank all 3 swim up to the glass and hover about. There amazing fish and ive had no aggression issues. Im not saying they wont because i know nothing, but all i can speak of is my experience with them, and they make great tank mates in my tank.

There is also a single angelfish in there.

I'm confused, you ask if a single angel will be fine, but you've already got one?
