Hello,

I am replaceing my heater as it is getting very old and I need to heater with a solid thermostat. I am not certain if I need a 100watt, or a 150 watt? The tank is a 35 gallon, so I am guessing the 100 will do fine.

The brand name of the heater is "Jager" (see link below)

Does anyone see a reason I should not purcahse this specific heater? I am getting it because my current one does not have a thernostat on it at all, and it is very old.

What do you think?. Thanks.

I've heard Jager are good. The heater should cover about 3 watts per gallon though IMO you might want to do two heaters, one on each side of the tank to better regulate and equalize the temperature. Otherwise one side of the tank might be warmer than the other.

That is a good point but I am not to worried about that because this tank is 35 gallons with an aqua clear 500 on it, so the water gets to circulate a lot.

3 watts per gallon? Well that'll mean I need 105 watts, so no need in getting the 150watt, as the 100 should do just fine.

Thanks for the help!

If anyone has a reason for me not to purchase a Jager heater then please let me know.

Some people suggest as much as 5 watts (for lighting as well) but I think that's too much for either heating or lights. The one you're looking at is definitely in the right range though. Good quality and price too. :)

I would highly recommend Ebo Jager heaters. They keep the temperature very stable and the one I have can be calibrated if the temp on the heater dial doesn't match the actual water temperature. I believe it also has a low water level shut off.

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up ordering this one:

Its 100watt, should be fine for my 35 gallon. From what the description says it has a very good thermostat, with a .5 f accuracy.

Hopefully its what I want, I have orderd a previous heater that apprantly had a "solid state thermostat", and it was junk, couldnt even tell what temp it was set it, you just adjusted it and played a guessing game.

EDIT: also didn't get charged for shipping! bonus for me
