hi all,

setting up my new tank which is a 200 lt and i am using 2x rena smart heater 150w.

i am aware of minuim water level for them but is there a maxuim as my tank is deeper than length of the heaters.

can i run the heaters close to bottom of tank so cable and temp dial are below water level and strainer is near substrate or do i need to run them higher in tank so they sit middle of the tank?

thanks

The official rule is that they should not be immersed deeper than 1 metre, but I imagine this is to do with the water then being too close to the plug.

The usual rules apply regarding position: don't immerse the actual heater in the substrate, position the heater where flow is good.

thanks for your reply.

tank is now set up with a rena at each end and about 2" below the water level which puts the strainer about 1" off my sand base.

tank has been running for a week now and i have just transfered 5 bloodfin tetras from my current tank.

they seam happy in there new home are exploring and having little chases every now and then.
