has anyone got one of these heaters it can go on the intake side of an external filter so will tidy the tank up seems like a really good idea, someone has suggested that as it will be heating the water that is leaving the tank into the filter that it won't be as effcient as a normal in tank heater. :)

while putting it on the intake might appear a good idea, the heater will get filthy, and as you have heard, may not heat the tank to what its showing on the thermostat, i have one of these heaters, and i think its excellent, maybe a little too big, but unbreakable quality, heating to what its showing. :good:

Should really be put on the outflow from the filter, as Adam said will get dirty but I have heard it can damage the impeller (don't know how just passing in the info), warehouse aquatics has them and I think they are a fair bit cheaper than the Hydor ones, let us know how you get on :good:

i don't think it can go on the outlet, i might not bother i just thought it would look better without normal heater inside the tank. :)

well, no, it cant go on the output, thats why its a bit of a silly design, if you stuck it on the outlet, you would reduce your flow drastically, as soon as it comes out it would be blocked and forced downwards, probably throwing all of your substrate up aswell.

I have one on both my tanks, both connected to the intake & I've had no problems at all with them. Consistent & accurate, virtualy unbreakable & no danger of my plecs getting burnt.
