Rena Hob Filters

I'm considering setting up a 55 gal tank and I'm looking for possible filters. I now have two smaller tanks with Aqueon filters and I'm not sure if I like them. I like the idea of having a seperate media that bacteria will grow in. The Aqueon don't use any.

Does anyone use Rena hob filters and how do you like them? Ease of use?
