Hi All

Another newbie question!

What is the best way of removing uneaten food from the bottom of the tank? I tried using a small net but it just kind of swishes the broken up flakes around the tank, and as it's gravel on the bottom it's quite hard to do without disturbing the gravel.

What do you guys use for this? And how bad is it if a small amount of uneaten food remains in the tank?

i never really remove the food because its a faf, i just tend to give them abit less next time until you know how much to give, they say give enough to last about 2 minutes feeding time. I just tend to use a gravel cleaner (about a fiver at pets at home) which gets all the crap out of the gravel when cleaning time comes around!

I dont normally have that problem, but either a turkey baster or the tube off your gravel vac will pick up uneaten food.

If left there to decompose it will gradually build up and cause bad water quality.

Start feeding them just a tiny bit of flake etc,if they eat it all in a few seconds, then add a bit more, its better to underfeed than overfeed. :)

The best way to remove any sediment is by using the gravel vac during your water changes. It will siphon up anything light like uneaten food very efficiently.
