Removing Scratches From Glass

Thanks to everyone for the replies, it's certainly given us a few ideas.

Oh I forgot the glass cutter said to not let the glass get hot but this will slow things down considerably as the water will wash away the cerium.
I really pushed it with my tank (until glass on the outside was hot to touch then 5 minute rest but I figured I would rather have a broken tank than these scratches lol - I think because the glass was curved it naturally gave a little whereas straight glass could cause problems and result in a crack. if you are not careful.
Oh and I would never attempt this on the outside as you will always see the distortion.

Sorry to drag this topic up again, but regarding the toothpaste technique - does the tank need to be empty for that? I have a couple of eye-level scratches that are driving me nuts, but nowhere to put my fish!

From what I have read cerium oxide is harmless toward fish anyway so might as well use that. Empty tank as much as possible and tape clingfilm to tank as a trap and start polishing.
