I want to remove the filter box, I have an external and just want that horrid looking thing removed from my tank. Is there anyway to do this with fish in the tank or do they have to be removed?

Thanks in advance.

the huge horrible jewel filters are only held in by 4 blobs of silicone, 2 at the bottom and 2 at the top. you might get away with it and do it with the fish in by using a sharp thin blade. just make sure you get all the silicone off after removing the filter for best looks :good:

Is that it? Just 4 bits of silicone?
Thanks matt, I will give that a go later on thiss evening when the kids go to bed. Will update and tell you how it went.
Thanks again.

I removed the filter from my Juwel Vision 180 a long time ago for the same reasons and its very noisy operation.

Matt is quite correct, it is only held in with circular blobs of silicone on the side and rear face of the unit, and is relatively simple to remove with a sharp blade and some gentle force.

Once mine was out, I removed all traces of silicone, drilled the unit where the silicone was attached and then fitted some plastic suction cups so that it can be refitted, cleaned and removed at any time. This also made it much quieter in operation.

Personally, I would recommend removal of the unit without water, as there is no guarantee that the water will not be contaminated during the removal process, no matter how careful you are!

I used a long screwdriver and a stanley knife and it worked a treat.
Forgot to update this.

Thanks again.

I did mine with fish in situ :) glad it went well!

yeah, me too. guess it does not matter how, just get the thing out. you can then use a proper filter.

I removed mine with a cheap extendable stanley knif fully extended so you have a nice long blade to slice it off, and a scouring pad and last but not least elbow grease! Keep the powerhead though as mine has come in handy for ciculation while i wait for my sunsun
