I am remodeling my 5 gallon into a fish heaven! But what fish to keep in it?

if i had a 5 gallon, it would be a snail tank for my puffers

as it is, my snails are in an unfiltered tank are are spawning like catholics in the 50'5

I have a five gallon running and I have 12 dwarf puffers in it. Some would say that is to many but through my experince dwarf puffers thrive better in groups. They can be messy little critters so I do two water changes a week which is well worth it for these cute little guys.

But Puffers need Salt Water tanks don't they? I cant have a salt water tank only fresh water fish.

Dwarf Puffers are a freshwater species. As long as your tank is cycled and have at least 6-8 puffers in it you should have no problems, just do water changes often. If you are seriously considering these fish I can give you all the advise you will need.

As adults they will be 1 - 1.5 inches. They are very active and have distinct personalities, almost like a puppy dog in a tank.

you arent fit to look after any sort of fish, never mind a puffer fish

you should have 1, maximum 2, and no more in that size tank

Thank you for your personal opinion Treelo, I fully understand your concern. And i'm sure your a fine fish keeper. With that said I assure you I'm fully capable of handling and keeping fish of all sorts, especially puffers as I own 3 different species that are more than 3 years old. I have also been keeping other species of fish for more than 10 years. It is through my personal experience that Dwarf puffers thrive in a smaller community setting as apose to a large setting with few fish. If you don't believe me try it.

I might get a couple Dwarf Puffers for my 5 gallon. But then again I really want to own Fancy Guppies or Rosey Red Minnows. But Dwarf Puffers look a little fun to have.

Can I mix a couple Minnows with a couple Fancy Guppies in the 5 gallon?
