Here is the result of all the great research and advice I gained from this forum :)

(Hopefully it will post properly this time unlike my last unsuccessful post, now my internet seems to be working properly again)

I got the tank about 7.5 weeks ago and it finished cycling about 5.5 weeks ago.

Current fish: 6 Zebra Danios and 5 White Cloud Mountain Minnows. I'm hoping to add maybe 3 Otos in the future.

All the plants are fabric apart from the centre rear one (and its offshoots planted elsewhere), but it isn't doing too well (due to low light I suspect) so I may remove it. I've also got some Java Fern and Java Moss on order.

Let me know what you think...any other constructive ideas are welcome...

I'd take some pics of the fish themselves too if they would stay still long enough!

Looks really nice! :)

I love how all the fish just show up as "streaks" darting around the tank LOL.

Nice! I love your tank. I think it would look good with some live floating plants and some sorta red combomba (sp?) style plants. Or any red plants for that matter. I also think that maybe some more rocks and caves on the right hand side to allow the fishes somewhere else to hide. Otherwise, its great!

thanks for the comments :)

I agree about the red plants puffer_freak. The live plant that is not doing too well was green and red to start with, but now it's a yellowy green. I might look around and see if there are any red plants that can survive less than 1W/g of light (any recommendations?)

There is a plant pot on the right side hiding behind the driftwood and the tall plant. Which can just about be seen from this angle:

There is another plant pot on the left hiding behind the small plant and the white ornament is a cave too. I was thinking about another piece of long thin driftwood sticking up at an angle towards the top left and/or some pieces of slate. But I also want to maintain some open space for the ZDs.

Wow! Someone actually agreed with me! I can't do tanks myself, I just advise!

I also think that a big rock formation right up the back wall would look stunning in that tank! Good luck!

Looks very nice.... :D Those java would look great on the gravel once you get them.....

You can get reflectors by Juwel for the Rekord series of tanks which would increase the lighting in your tank cheaply and easily to help with plants.

Keep us updated and go for those otos they would make a perfect addition.

the rock formation is an interesting idea too (and you say you can't do tanks!) I might give it some more thought.

The tank comes with a reflector behind the light bunjiweb. do you mean that there are better ones available? It's a shame I can only upgrade the lighting by replacing the hood, and if that happens then it will be a project for the future.

The Rekord hood points the light towards the front of the tank though, so I was wondering if a reflective covering on the front half of the hood would make things better...I may experiment.

I've only had it a couple of months or so and I'm already looking for ways to improve. I am starting to see where MTS comes from

Yeah, thats right, I don't do tanks, I'm just the ideas person!!! :p :D :D :D

Wow,I'm surprised you gave my ideas some hought to be honest! What if, you bought new plants (live ones) that are already really quite well grown, and put them in in. I suggest red plants, java fern/moss, and amazon sword or something. Keep the layout more or less as it is IMO.

for rocks I have used cobble stones available at any builders merchants.

your tank looks
