Basically as the title says I am wondering how do you keep the temperature of your tank at acceptable levels in summer, or do you need to?

My tank sits at regular 25 degrees at the moment. The tank is in my lounge, which has pretty much 2 walls of solid, south facing windows, so it is a real heat trap. In summer I can see it being a very hot room, especially during august etc where ambient temperature reaches 30 degrees+. So, for these (being in England probably 2 days) hot days do people do anything to keep their tanks cool? I can imagine the water temperature heating up a lot in those conditions, probably at least to the 30 degree mark.

Do you just leave things as they are or do people top up with cooler water?

You can get, or make, a hood that has small built in fans that will blow air across the top of the water surface of your tank, this helps with heat transfer and keeps the temp down.

As FHM said, a bit of evaporation by blowing air across the top of the water will cool the tank much the way that perspiring cools people.
