hi, i have some vallis that is lacking light. however in my fry tank i have nearly 2 watts per gal as opposed to 1 in my main tank. can i float the val on the surface for a couple of days or will it die from lack of nutrients from not being in the substrate, i will put some lant fert in just to help. (i have no substrate in my fry tank so it will have to float so it is close to the light.

OR

do i attach some lead to it and let it rest on the glass at the bottom. OR can i put it in a see through fis bag with some fert so it is more concentrated and float it that way? any help would be appreciated

The problem with vallis is that it is a plant that derives most of it's nutrients from its root structure. While it can absorb nutrients through its leaves, that is not its primary method. It really should be planted in a substrate of some type. Better plants for fry tanks without substrates include most stemplants, which take up nutrients primarily from their leaves, or mosses. Floating plants are great too.

thanks lljdma06. i need to find some moss becuase my lfs doesnt sell it. ive seen some ricca on aquaessentials but i want something more mossy if that makes sense!

Rhizome plants like java fern are the best for no gravel tanks. I have the java fern and find they are very hard. They come in many variations. Some are become little bushy plants and some are like hygro willow with thin long leaves.

its like 13 quid for a bit of moss on AE. !!!!!!!!!
