I just got my betta 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I have him in a 5 gal plastic aquarium with two live plants. I have been running the light for about 16 hours a day and everything was fine up until a few days ago.

My betta started seeing his reflection and trying to attack it, he only sees it when i have the light on. What could i do to help reduce this? I seen one guy had dried bamboo and plants floating, i thought this might help with the floating plants taking most of the sunlight but i am having trouble finding dried bamboo.

is there any kind of plant that i can plant along the sides and back of my tank that won't take up to much room?

camboda grows well and will grow across the top of the tank so u could use this. it will also block the light abit so this could help.

Water lettuce and frogbit are good floating plants to use. You also should have more than 2 live plants. bettas prefer plenty of vegetation to hide in an rest on.

As mentioned above, Cabomba is a good choice, fairly easy to grow . Elodia is another good one, so is Hygrophillia.

hmmm..... i'd really like to grow stuff all along the outsides of the tank, but sometimes he even sees his reflection on the front of the tank lol. I've never had one do this before

thanks for your suggestions

the guy with the dried bamboo had Hemianthus micranthemoides floating, i know it is suppose to be planted, i'm curious on how long it lived floating

if he's only recently noticed himself he will most likely realize sooner or later that he cant "get to" his reflection an calm down a bit. and then you'll only have the occasional attack on himself. but i agree that plants are defo the way to go with a betta. they really do appreciate them.
cheers

i guess i'll leave the light on today and see if he is still trying to attack himself when i get home
