I wouldn't normall yvent anger at mis-information on the web, but there are times when is just seems too bad to even think about.

Redtail Catfish Profile

The fact they have the size it grows to at about half of what it can reasonably be expected to head towards is bad enough. But 120 gallons? for an adult? I am in pure shock.

To be honest, I woudn't be happy putting a 2 foot fish in a 120 anyway but...

Sorry all, just had to vent :*) I emailed them with some more correct info, but I won't hold my breath -_-

I WISH I could keep a RTC in a 120 gallon. I've always wanted one, and even now that I have my 120 gallon I would NEVER put a red-tailed cat in there. Maybe in a tank or pond the size of my pool. :p

My girlfriend fell in love with a RTC at a LFS a while ago. She knew nothing about it... I knew they got big but we looked it up and found the reality that it got MASSIVE

She wants me to put one in my pond (6' x 6' @ 2.5' deep) but personally I wouldn't want to have one even in it unless it was the only occupant.

I also emailed them... if enough people do they will be more likely to update it.

Wow...they are way off! With a proper sized pond (or a really really really huge tank!) they can grow to 4+ feet!

i wouldn't keep that in a pond, unless you want a black bottom dweller as your only fish. Anything else will be eaten unless it's a shark and you'll barely ever see it since it has a black back.

I wish I could turn my pool into a pond. I would glady make it a home to a red-tailed cat. It is about 6-7 feet deep, about 12 feet long and about 8-10 feet wide. :D
