Hi Folks, well finally took the plunge and went for the marine option, still running my trops and there doing mighty fine, but wanted some advise if you would be so kind.......

I am thinking of going for the Redsea Max 130D, looks pretty impressive and as im a total novice to the world of marine i kinda punted for the all in one option.

Is this a wise move ?

Your thoughts would be greatfully appreciated

Cheers

Well Morph, the Redsea max tanks are certainly nice aquariums. They're all in one, plug and play setups which is also pretty cool. The only trouble is the pricetag. ~$900 is a hefty chunk of change when it comes to a tank. I won't try and deter you from going this route, but I will encourage you to consider what fish you want to keep down the road and then decide if this setup is right for you. That tank will work great for fish, LR, and some basic corals. It may require modifications and improvements for more difficult corals though and will be somewhat restrictive in terms of which and how many fish you can put in there.

Hope that helps get you thinking and :hi: to the marine world :)

My original thought was also the red sea max but after looking around and looking at the price i went with the orca/boyu 550 - which is a great tank if you are looking or something in the 26 gallon range.

anyway, welcome to the salty side :good:

Hi Ski, Thanks for the reply, now alarm bells are ringing, Modifications / Improvements ?? How many fish do you advise i should stock, does the ratio work the same as it does for trops ??

Sure got me thinking

Thanks for the welcome Seffie, Still confused as to what to do for the best...Soooo Mannny to choose from

No, the rules of freshwawter do not apply to the marine world. Swimming room, aggression, and territoriality limit you more than anything. In general you'd be looking at ~5-6 fish depending on their size and type with a tank that size if you're going Fish Only. If you want to start adding corals, I'd stay more in the ~4 range.
