So, when I set up my tank about a week ago i had my plants in there, 2 bunches ( about 10 strands in each of Anacharis plants) and other one which i cant quiet remember the name. Now me being new to this i didnt turn on the light when i went to school, so that means the light was only on about 7 hours a day. Slowly my plants started dying and browning and breaking off and poluting the tank which they are doing now. I just found that out today at the shop (since im new at this) and i put the light on a timer to be on for 14 hours out of the day. But, i lost about 4 large strands from each lil plant base which makes a huge dent in the greenery. So, i have a bugget of 60 dollars tomorrow and im going to go to this great fish shop that has alot of plants. Now what do you think would look really nice in a 29 gallon tank that would fill it up. Now im not talking about big large tall plants, i mean like lil shrubs too, i just dont know what the names of them are, can anyone give me some pointers?

The above is a nice site for info about plants.

What you choose is really down to the set up you have.

14 hours per day of light is probably too much and will encourage algae growth. Go for about 10.

Do you know what lighting you have? Type of tube? how many watts?

OK, with that amount of light, you've only got 0.7 WPG which is low light. This could be the reason why your other plants died. The light intensity just may not be enough.

Here are some plants to look out for that do not require much light:

Any anubias sp, e.g

These are very pretty plants I think. You tied them to wood or rocks. You could make a nice arrangement using a huge bit of wood and having anubias nana tucked into the nooks.

Java moss

again attaches itself to wood.

Java Fern

also attached to wood. not sure if the above is actually "java fern".

Some Crypts maybe OK too.

Hope that gives you a starting point.

So if i keep my current bulb i have a higher chance of them not growing? Are tehre any other types of lamps other than flourecent that would work better?
