im currently observing my redlined torpedos, had them since about 1.5" and suddenly they are acting different.
noticed that there is a definate difference in appearance and size and character over the past week.
these fish so far have no sexing ID or long term obs regarding breeding on google, this is because it is stated that they have never bred in captivity and are almost impossible to sex.
i pressume they are the same age as they both came from the same tank in shop and have been identical until recently. the differences im seeing are:
slight different markings from tip to tail
different lenght
one plumper than the other
one in particular does the chasing and dances in circles infront of the other one.
ive had them since i started the tank.

ive been documenting all noticed changes and behaviours over the past week

anyone got any info that they have heard of regarding these fish, ive exhausted the search on google so trying from direct experience of other members who have or had them before
thanks

found a link on a forum and apperantley someone has spawned them in captivity:

Here is the story behind the Puntius Denisonii fry.

As of late I have been rather busy so tank maintenance has slipped to some degree.

The tank they were bred in is a 125 gallon tank that is connected via a 150 gallon sump to a 220 gallon tank. So essentially from a shear volume perspective they are part of a 500 gallon system.

Last week I had the time to do some maintenance on the 125 gallon tank. The tank holds quite a few fish and has a ton of java moss in it. The java moss took over a good section of the tank and under it had a decent amount of debris. I then removed the java moss and rinsed it and suctioned out most of the debris under the java moss.

I noticed at that point that some of the debris moved like fish!! Turns out it was really tiny Puntius Denisonii fry. I only found 2 fry at that time. At that point I put back the java moss and stopped the maintenance.

I have completed water changes on the system but have left the 125 tank alone as far as gravel vacuuming and so on.

It appears as if I have 2 fry... currently I only see one swimming around but it's possible the other is hiding.

The tank held

8 Puntius Denisonii
2 - L264 Leporacanthicus joselimai
1 - Three Beacon Pleco
Several Bushy nosed pleco's
12 or more Botia Striata
6 or more Botia Rostrata
1 Horse Faced Loach
1 - Pearl Gourami

So as you can see... I have plenty of fish that would love caviar which is what I think happened to the rest of the eggs. I did not even know the fish spawned so I didn't get to see it happen. And the reason I believe it is a Puntius Denisonii fry is due ot the general shape and some of the marking plus I do not own nor have I owned any fish that would have similar fry.

As for water parameters

78F
80-100ppm nitrates
250ppm Total Hardness
120ppm Total Alkalinity/Buffering Capacity
PH was less than 6.4

As for the camera I use to take pictures of my fish

Nikon D200
with a
Nikon 18-200mm F/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF DX VR Lens

The 8 adults were all purchased from 2 local fish stores at 2 different times around a year or so ago. As for being wild caught I have no idea I could find that information out.
HTH :)

and another post form the same thread:
Last year, we have 25 denisonii in a size off 15-20 cm.
First time we held them in a tank with 1000 litres, temp 24 C, GH 14, KH 8, pH 7.2. Nothing happened for about half a year.

The denisonii were moved to a tank with 500 litres, GH 10, Kh 6, pH 6.8 – 6.9, water temp 19-21 C. After one week the males begin to play and change their colour with more red, and on the top they would be blue.
After 3 week they stop playing! Know I don’t know what to do!!
I decided to take the temp up to 24 and then down to 18 C and I also placed some Barbus odessa in the same tank.
When the water was 19 C both species of barb begin to play, first the odessa have eggs, and then two days later the denisoni have round 300 eggs.
Very fast the eggs became fungused and we could only save around 80 eggs.
We begin to feed with small artemia and liquid for egglayers. After 5 month they was 3 to 4 cm, after 8 month they where 6 to 8 cm .
This happens last April 2005! This year we make the same procedures but nothing happens.
Last three weeks (Aug 2006) they are playing but we don’t know what will happen.
