One of our cichlids has developed a red ulcer like growth on his tail fin. Does anyone have any idea what it could and how we could cure it please?
We have about 20 cichlids, 5 zebra loaches and 3 plecs in a 4ft x 18" x 2ft tank. Tank is filled with ocean rock and base of tank has cover of fine gravel. He is the only fish with this ulcer and there are no signs of it on any of the others. Hope someone can help please.

What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Ulcers are pink or red with a circling of white dead tissue around the edges.
Ulcer can be caused by bad water quality, bacterial, parasites.
Is the ulcer on the fin part of the tail. just want to make sure.

Any signs of flicking and rubbing, darting, excess mucas.

The levels have all been checked and they are normal. The growth is actually on the tail fin and looks like a small red cauliflower with a white spot in the middle. He is behaving normally and this thing doesn't seem to be bothering him at all. Any ideas?

Cauliflower looking growth that are red can be lymthocystits with is viral.
But with the white spot in the centre it's sounding more bacterial.

Can you issolate and try a bacterial med.

Thank you. Will put him in separate tank and give him bacterial meds and see what happens.
