red-tailed shark actiin funny..

yo many people say that red-tailed sharks shouldn't be 2 together on a 10 gallon tnak cause they will fight, but not really..it's been like a day and they get alomg just fine. No figting. But one of them acts werid. Well both of them do. I got this lil shipwreck in mah tank and a tall Pagoda. One of them stays like isolated in the pagoda and the other like stays near the shipwreck. Sometimes they follow each other and juss , well do nothing. Stay together. But on of them acts kinda funny. He' or she keeps on doing like these spins or wha ever in the water.. i thought they were dying at first but they do it like all the time. And they seem pretty healthy...any thing u have to say??

2 in a 10...you shouldn't even have 1 in a 10, i had my shark about a week before he started to pick on the other fish...they are nervous the first few days in the tank, your fish are still getting used to the new enviroment. Keep an eye on them tho..i dont think it will be to long before there are scuffles over territory

have you got a bigger tank that you can re-home them to?


idealy they could do with going into a bigger home, or maybe takin one or both back would be a safer option, as the person before me pointed out, it will in the end lead to scuffles, if you can read up about these 'breeds' of fish you will see that they shouldnt be together, they fight alot.


mine fights itself most of the time, or it 'attempts' to have a go at my hoplos.. who are.. bigger than him and thats in a 46 gal tank..

oo ight...cause dis the first time for me actually gettin these types of fish...i usually juss get barbs like tiger barbs or green ones..i did some research on the sharks and yea i guess it's true..their like beta fish in a way..aight aight maybe i should like seperate them or look after themm....i juss neeeded somethind different in my tank..haha

Speaking of Red Tails, I would like to get 2 of them for my 125 Gal. This should be enough room with out fighting? I also would like Yellow Labs and Peacocks of some sorts. Will this be ok?

madd i dunno about that mix im afraid.... you will need to ask someone else about that.

esung, im afraid to say that most lfs ppl will tell u anything to get a sale/money out of u.

2 sharks in a 10gal with two platys is too much.. u could prolly have 4-6 plattys in that tank and thats about it... and if im unsure id say only 4...

the two sharks need a big tank, and your not supposed to have two sharks in the same tank because of territoial aggression...
as i said mine is in a 40 and its territorial.. it came out of a 22.5 gal long.. because of its aggression towards my barbs.

without havin another tank... short answer is no, the only answe i can give you apart from that is, take them back to the lfs.

may i ask... dont want to sound rude or anythin... but how old are u?


im asking because if you are still at school it will be harder for you to get another tank set up without a lot of 'mum/dad can i have another tank' (repeat ten billion times)

where as if you have ur own home/apartment and your workin, it realy wont take long to save and get a new bigger setup, always go for somthin bigger.. because a few weeks down the line (in my case) u will want another bigger tank

im 14 and a freshmen now in high skool..haha...i can't work yet but im goin to soon and maybe get a bigger tank if mah parents let me..cause if I do, then i doubt it they gon help me buy some fish.. ..it's like "You buy the tank and you buy the fish"

i wonder if your sharks are male and female and breeding or something? that shoudl make it ok for them in same tank..? also my 10 gallon has 7 livebearers in it and they are fine, although im upgrading(afta 2weeks lmao) to a 4ft tank in the next few days so they will be fine and the 10g will become a fry tank!
