Red Tailed Botia

[I Keep Fish]

Hi.

Was looking at these in my LFS a while back, and im just wandering how big they get? they were about 4" in the shop and looked like they get quite big,
any ideas?

Needs a fairly "specialist" setup, in that they are enjoy modest current; slightly warmer water than typical tropicals (26-30C); do better in a group; reach ~20cm and so need a tank of 5+ feet long (quite similar needs to a Clown Loach). However, these guys can get nasty, so tankmates need to be able to give as good as they get!

i rehomed one and it was a nightmare. it wasnt aggressive or anything like that but it was in my bedroom tank and it would hide all day but on the night became active. it just would try to jump out and splash the water surface, hence it waking me and my girlfriend up. i quickly rehomed it again lol.

I was really tempted to get a group of six from Aquajardin when they came in a few months ago, until reading about the temp they require (an important consideration, the only issue I mentioned earlier that did not suit my 5x2x2), which would be far too high (metabolism plus lower oxygen saturation) for my riverine fish.
Gorgeous looking fish though with an inpredictable nature, just like the Anostomus anostomus (Striped Headstanders) I took an intrest in (who are sadly still there seven months on).
