Red Tailed Black Shark Help !

My Red tailed Black shark is quite pale & his tale is more see through than red , he is swimmimng and eating like normal , just has lost his colour .

My Ammonia is 0% , Nitrite is 0% and nitrate is 40PPM. I have done a 30% water change ( as i do every sunday anyway , along with a gravel sift ) .

any thoughts ?

What do you feed him & what size tank is he in?
If his experiencing poor health or not kept in the proper conditions he will appear pale and washed out.

how old is he?

i had one that was about 2.5 years old and about 6"


he started to go pale and then eventually passed away and i couldnt see anything wrong with him so im pretty sure it was old age.

he started to go pale and then eventually passed away and i couldnt see anything wrong with him so im pretty sure it was old age.

He is in a Juwel rio 125 tank , that has had the internal filter removed and replaced by a eheim classic 2213 , other tank mates are 9 balloon mollies , 5 bronze cat fish , 5 glo-light tetras & 1 bristle nose . I thought perhaps he was getting stressed , but we have never seen him chase the other fish & he has at least 3 caves to hide in , I am confused to say the least .....we feed him on flake food & algae wafers & occasionally blood worm .

we have only had him about 14 months and he was small when we got him .
