when i finally sort my tank out and move everything to the bigger one, my husband has asked if he could have a red fin shark (or rainbow) i dont really think it would work as ive heard they are a bit agressive, my current stocking is 4 cherry barbs, 2 glass fish, 7 khulis, 1 swordtail, 3 corys, 1 flying fox and shrimps, my concern is the fox hes a little terrortorial at feeding time, would the addition of a shark cause trouble?

i would say unless your very experianced and confident you should stay away from them. tank size might be an issue.

im assuming your your glass fish are a type of glass catfish in which case they need to live in big groups.

I got 1 of these once going off the advice of someone in a fish store. I kept it with 2 female bettas and 1 male betta as well as a few other fish including 2 killifish. VERY BAD IDEA! At first it was fine but once he started to grow after a month or so it constantly attacked the bettas and the killis. He seemed to leave my tetras alone completely but I reckon it was only a matter of time before they became another meal for him

Not sure about kuhlis or cories, but I've had Rainbow Sharks with Cherry Barbs, Tetras, Flying Fox, and shrimp for years on end with only the occasional chasing. Loaches and Cories will share the tank bottom with them, though, so that might not work out. If you give them a nice place to hide, they'll stay there and be peaceful.

dont know, thats what i call them because i can see through them, they are middle to top of the tank dwellers and tend to hover rather than swim around, my husband went to get a takeaway, he said the queue was too long so popped into the LFS next door to look whilst the cue died down and came home with them

i think i will tell hubby to give the shark a miss or get a tank of his own

i've got a red tail that lives in a community and i've never had any trouble in 18 months. Not aggressive towards other fish, just swims around minding his own busy. I may have been lucky, it could be hit or miss with other sharks.

A RTBS will have a go at your Flying Fox, which i'm assuming is a Siamese Algae Eater. They are the same body shape and that's the only reason why RTBS's tend to get aggressive. A single Rainbow shark could be a better idea but again, its a bit of an experiment. I'd advise you to get more foxes, if your tank can support them, they prefer a small group and then they keep to themselves. Very fast fish though and I've seen some real big ones in the past, cant remember your tank size but 4 foot at least is recommended.

if your assuming her flying fox is a chinese algae eater then they should live in groups

no, im assuming its a Siamese Algae Eater, like i said :) in which case, small groups are ideal as they are shoaling, rather than schooling, appreciate faster waters and high oxygenation.

as there was alot of conflicting info between these two fish, i sought the help Of the owner of my lfs and used the latin name and lots of books/internet to research the two, we concluded it was a flying fox and not a SAE, they are similar though, not that it matters to me what he is as long as he behaves

He probably wont....in time :)
so ive heard, when that time comes he will have his own tank, but it was either me take him or he was heading for the loo along with a few other fish i aquired
